On my second evening in Texas, I had my first opportunity to photograph a Yemenite Henna Ceremony for Natalie and Eli and what a brilliant experience it was.
Hosted at a private residence in Houston days before their wedding, Natalie and Eli’s friends and family ensured a passionate and energetic start to the weekend’s wedding celebrations.
Warm embraces and roaring laughter between distant travelled loved ones helped create the perfect atmosphere for Natalie’s procession led by the female members of both Natalie and Eli’s families.
Vigorous dancing pursued the procession before the Henna artist settled down under the unwavering gazes of Natalie and Eli’s guests as they admired the intricate and beautiful patterns she designed along Natalie’s arm and hand.
Cue the belly dancer and the tempo was raised once again with plenty of enthusiastic and mind boggling dancing making me ponder of the possibility that Israeli dancers have the ability to detach their hip joints to achieve unimaginable feats of flexibility.
Appreciation of this was shown by all present including George Washington and his President friends whose green faces lined the edges of the belly dancer’s costume.
Great food and drink helped sustain the dancing until late into the evening, until the time came for everybody to recuperate for the celebrations that would continue over the weekend.
Here’s a selection of a few of my favourite moments from Natalie and Eli’s Henna Party.
